Through the metaphor of nature and the elements, this essay highlights the futility of trying to escape grief and the necessity of ultimately accepting help. Submitted for publication.

I was engaged by the principal to assist in the critical elements of a fundraising event, including video development and award recipient speech writing.

St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children in Dorchester, Massachusetts, has a rich and constant history as a haven and resource that fosters hope and self-esteem and prepares homeless families for a life of emotional stability and an independent, sustainable future. In recognition of the 20th anniversary of St. Mary’s current history,  I researched and wrote a History of St. Mary’s from its inception in 1874 as St Mary’s Infant Asylum, through its many iterations. I also threaded the historical theme throughout the program for the annual fundraiser event, Diamonds of Dorchester.

Some people need no introduction. Others have too many talents and contributions to enumerate. Sometimes, by merely underscoring their characteristics, you can tell their story.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget who keeps the doors open every day, who administers the compassionate care, and without whom there would be no services for the underserved.
